Icefields Parkway
Icefields Parkway Cascading mountains, meandering rivers, blue-green lakes, majestic glaciers……. cruising up and down Icefields Parkway redefines driving. You do not feel the rush trying to get to B from A, you wish the road never ends. I felt the only reason going to Jasper is to drive Icefields Parkway and back. We spent 2 days doing just that (Day 4 and Day 6). Both days were cloudy. Mountain summits peaked out of flowing clouds as if playing pee-ka-boo with us. It was 2 days of “I Spy”, finding beautiful lakes, rugged mountains, skinny trees beyond what we had planned for. We saw 2 black bears, 1 brown bear and many elks during…

Day 6
Day 6 – 8/23/2016 After carefully planning out today’s route, we checked out hotel in Jasper. It was still cloudy and drizzled here and there. Since we got rained out the day before, today will be a busy day for us. No time to waste, we headed down Icefields Parkway. Day 5
Day 5 – 8/22/2016 A rainy, cold day :(. We planned a few hikes today, but had to change plan as the rain just kept on coming down. Coupled with 40 degree (F) temperature, it wasn’t very pleasant. Pictures on this page were mainly taken with iPhone as I didn’t want to get the Nikon soaked. Maligne Canyon Maligne Canyon is very deep with its deepest point near the 3rd bridge at 55 meters, it’s also very narrow, in some areas it’s even smaller than adults’ arm span. Maligne Canyon to Sixth Bridge – 3.7km one way, easy There are six foot bridges on the Maligne Canyon trail, the first four…

Day 4
Day 4 – 8/21/16 Icefields Parkway – a MUST!!! We checked out of Fairmont early in the morning, and headed toward Jasper National Park via Icefields Parkway. National Geographic calls it “one of the world’s ten greatest drives”. Stretching 230-km between Lake Louise and Jasper, this well maintained scenic drive offers easy access to many of the glacier lakes, ice fields and majestic viewpoints of Canadian Rockies. Though you can get to Jasper in under 3 hours with no stops, it took us 2 days to drive round trip. Hector Lake – Milepost 16-km Crowfoot Glacier – Milepost 33-km Bow Lake Lookout – Milepost 34-km Bow Lake Bow Lake is a…
